2023 was a special year for Pinot at our Yarra Junction site.
The grapes used in our 2023 'The Prophet' were 100% hand-harvested Pinot Noir (Clones MV6, 115 and 114) from our Yarra Junction Vineyard. Multiple, temperature-controlled small batches of 100% whole berries were allowed to ferment using a combination of natural and inoculated yeast strains. Cold soak and simultaneous secondary fermentation were also utilised to enhance colour, highlight aromatics and improve complexity. All ferments were meticulously hand plunged and gently pressed with some ferments allowed extra time on skins. The wine was matured for nine months in 40% new French oak barrels prior to bottling in December 13.4% alc/vol.
Tasting Notes
Vibrant cerise red in colour, this wine is instantly appealing with a perfume reminiscent of rose petals, red cherries and complex savoury potpourri and dried herb notes.
The palate is seriously refined, with an elegant power offering structural chalky tannins amidst a core of velvety pure fruits. Layering and integration of oak spice add crazy complexity culminating in a plush but controlled finish.

"From a single site in Yarra Junction; 100% whole-berry fermentation and matured for nine months in French oak (40% new). Bright cherry red. A young wine that needs a few good swirls to reveal a complex amalgam of crushed strawberries, raspberry coulis, bay leaf and rose petals. The palate is medium bodied, mouth-filling and opulent, with supple, very persistent tannins on the long, satisfying finish. One to cellar for at least the next five to seven years."
